NATURE OF WORK: This is advanced professional work in a Planning division or the Housing and Community Development division of the City Planning Department. The work involves developing and reviewing planning projects, coordinating technical studies, designs, and master plans for the City and metropolitan area. It involves planning, assigning, overseeing, and reviewing the work of neighborhood real estate development and code enforcement. Employees exercise considerable independence in the performance of duties and coordinate activities with the Planning director.

EXPERIENCE and TRAINING REQUIRED:  Bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies, Economics, Business, Community or Regional Planning, Real Estate, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Planning Research Methods. Experience in economic and community development, developing elements of a master plan, formulating a long range master plan of urban development and redevelopment or revitalization, administering or coordinating the collection of data and the conduct of major programs and projects or the activities of advisory boards, explaining proposals or programs to groups and individuals, writing major planning documents, and analyzing planning data and planning applications; one year of supervisory experience also necessary OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Six (6) years of experience in increasingly responsible planning, engineering, architecture or related experience preferred. Candidates should have substantial technical planning expertise in applicable fields, understand the relationships between transportation and urban design, and have a demonstrated ability to work with planners, engineers, administrators advisory boards and citizens. Must be able to transport oneself or coordinate transportation to sites throughout the city during the course of the work day.

SALARY RANGE: $65,596.70 to $80,256.02 Annual
